Guided reading books are useful materials to use. They are easy to use due to the assigned reading ages or levels, which provide useful guides for teachers. However, it is also important to incorporate other texts such as quality literature, magazines, web pages, poetry or songs, nonfiction from across the curriculum or which aligns to students’ interests, newspapers, class made texts, etc. Just take care to monitor that the material is not too difficult to read.
