Monitor students’ reading to ensure text selection is well matched to the purpose of this reading episode. If texts are too hard or too easy, make changes and continue to monitor.
Build students’ capacities to monitor texts. During feedback sessions, check in and support troubleshooting around:
- whether texts are too easy or too tricky
- whether students have enough texts to read, or too many texts which cause a distraction during reading
- text collection to make the process more efficient
- transition times, or how quickly students get started
