Once you have completed the ‘Body of the Lesson’ section of the course, view the learning reflection to see how well you have absorbed the material. If you miss any questions, go back and watch the video to ensure you fully understand the material.
Time to test the knowledge you’ve gained in Part 6.
The teacher makes the reading of the text associative, thereby freeing up the cognitive load for students. This enables students to focus their attention on more complex aspects of the text, which the teacher may target for explicit teaching.
The teacher identifies suitable parts of the text for teaching. He or she will revisit these parts of the text to highlight a way, or ways, the challenges within these sections of text may be solved.
Instruction is also more powerful when the teacher uses clear language to describe the problem solving action. Clear, consistent meta-language assists students to apply skills and strategies more effectively than longer, wordier explanations.
In shared reading, it is useful to stop or revisit the text at key points for teaching. The overall reading experience, however, should be relatively uninterrupted and maintain a fluency or flow between ideas.
Well done! That’s the end of the learning reflection for part 6
