Action Plan

Course progress

Review your guided reading program and reflect:

  1. Student groupings: Are students well placed in the current groups? Are all students making progress? How do I know? What data am I gathering?
  2. Text selection: Are the texts currently used meeting the needs of each group? Are texts interesting and engaging? Are they enabling me to coach students to apply a range of problem solving actions?
  3. Frequency of instruction: How often do I see each group and for how long? Am I able to see my harder to teach students more frequently? Why must I make time to see some students more often?
  4. Independent learning: Are students not participating in guided reading engaged in rich, meaningful tasks and activities which provide opportunities for practice and mastery of reading skills and knowledge to occur? Think about some of the tasks/activities assigned: How does each one make your students better readers?
